Where does it come from?

The standard portion of Lorem Ipsum used since the 1500s is reproduced below for those particularly interested. Sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from Cicero's “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” are also reproduced accurately, along with English versions from H. Rackham's 1914 translation.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. Its roots stretch all the way back to a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2,000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, USA, looked up several of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a volume of Lorem Ipsum, and by studying the usage of these words in classical literature, discovered their undoubtable origins. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of Cicero's "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil), written in 45 BC. The book is a treatise on ethical theories and was very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem Ipsum dolor sit amet...", is taken from a line in section 1.10.32.
